Texel Sheep

About Texel Sheep

These sheep are well known for their heavy muscling and lean meat. They are all white with black feet and noses, with no wool on their faces or legs. They are valuable as a terminal sire in any flock as the lambs are fast growing with excellent carcass quality. They are easy keepers and mature ewes usually weigh 150-200lbs.

The Texel sheep originated from the isle of Texel off the coast of the Netherlands. The breed was created through a mixture of short-tailed sheep, Lincolns, and leister long wools.

We brought our first flock of Texels home back in 2008 and they have been a favorite. They have the most docile temperament and have a unique look to them that a lot of our friends say look like wooly pigs. Our original flock came from Ellensburg WA, We have been bringing in new genetics through purchase of rams from a large sale Missouri and lately importing semen from the UK and New Zealand and using Vaginal Artificial Insemination to add these genetics to our flock.

We raise Registered stock and sell ewes and rams. We also have a crossbreeding program where we use Hampshire rams on our texel ewes to create nice sized and heavily muscled market lambs.
